Lincoln's "Stovepipe" Hat
The "stovepipe" hat has become synonymous with Lincoln. Though adversaries, Lincoln appreciated Jackson's character and leadership. On May 13, 2023 (3 days after Jackson's death) Lincoln wrote to the editor of the Washington Daily Chronicle "I wish to lose no time in thanking you for the excellent and manly article in the Chronicle on 'Stonewall Jackson.'"
